Purpose

Provide formulation research support to the Kop-Coat Agricultural Business Division

Location

Pittsburgh, PA (Approximately 15 miles Northeast of Downtown)

 

Minimum education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, Forensics, Materials Science with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience

 

Minimum skills and experience (records are required in support of this requirement):

  • Experience with formulation equipment and general analytical equipment in developing Agricultural formulations with a knowledge of pesticide/herbicide formulations and EPA guidelines
  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering, scientific, and/or mathematical concepts and theories in chemistry
  • Knowledge of the scientific method and the ability to design, organize, and coordinate research projects
  • Ability to maintain a notebook, generate graphs, develop scientific reports, and manuscripts based on original research
  • Ability to design, develop, and deliver presentations
  • Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, and multi-tasking on several projects
  • Ability to utilize statistics and statistical software
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices

Position Requirements:

US Travel and International possible up to 50% time

Organizational Relationships:

 

Reports to:                     Supervisor of Research, Development & Technology

 

Supervises:                    Currently none, subject to change.  Day-to-day interaction with other formulators, chemists, technicians, mycologist, part-time staff

 

Interfaces with:

Kop-Coat PP Leaders, Kop-Coat Laboratory Staff, Supervision, and Managers

 

Major Responsibilities, Authorities, and Requirements:

  • The candidate will successfully complete a 30/60/90-day orientation period which will involve training on KCPPD day to day business operations, as well as key functions within the formulation laboratory. This includes Kop-Coat designed laboratory SOP’s and other standardized test methods. A review with the Research and Development manager will occur after each 30-day period.
  • Skilled in the formulation, knowledge of surfactants, emulsifiers, and dispersants
  • Skilled in developing and testing new formulas in support of KCPPs Agricultural product line
  • Ability to develop, test, and compare formulations for the addition of new AI additions to our growing product portfolio
  • Ability to improve current formulations, find innovative and novel ways to add value, evaluate new AI’s and/or raw materials in existing formulas, manufacture samples for product chemistry, efficacy studies and field evaluations
  • A working knowledge of analytical chemistry and titration techniques
  • Ability to model concepts and approaches as an individual researcher and act independently on technical matters
  • Ability to exercise creativity, foresight, and judgement in planning, organizing, and guiding research projects
  • Interpretation, organization, execution, and coordination of scientific research assignments
  • Preparation of analyses, reports, and other documentation for publication or presentation
  • Serve as principal investigator on single or multiple projects of complexity and scope and/or delegate tasks to maintain a research unit
  • Ability to interact with others and work effectively under pressure as part of a multi-disciplinary team of individuals.
  • Ability to work on multiple, simultaneous complex projects with short deadlines and quick, short turn-around tasks while still producing superior quality work products.
  • Ability to maintain a laboratory notebook, communicate research findings both verbally and through documentation, and draw scientific conclusions.
  • Maintain knowledge of current technologies, new chemicals, equipment, and/or systems
  • Knowledge of hazardous shipping requirements and the willingness to learn to ship hazardous materials and research samples
